WESTERN PIMA COUNTY COMMUNITY COUNCIL
Minutes of the Meeting
September 6, 2007

The meeting was called to order at 7:00 p.m. by Vice Chair Carol Yocum.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by John Wyatt.

Roll call was by Chris Dimitrakopoulos with members Ken Freese, Mary Kralovec, Debbie Morrow, Rick Lehner, Carol Yocum, John Wyatt, Faye Miller and Chris Dimitrakopoulos present. Absent, Lil Jones.

Carol restated that minutes are waived and can be read at the Salazar Library.

Treasurer's Report: Ken reported that we had $1340.68 in the account.

Old Business:

Carol reported that the grant applied for by Lil Jones for the street lighting upgrades was denied.

John reported that the future of the roping arena is still being determined.

Debbie Morrow gave an update on the recycling program, stating that the large wooden box previously in use at the landfill was removed as it was not up to code. Also the metal receiving container at Olsen's IGA is getting a lot of use. She is currently working on permits for a cash-for-cans kiosk which will be installed in the near future.

There will also be an area at NAPA for recycling.

Morrow also reported that WPCCC will soon have its own website which will be online at WPCCC.info.

Chris d. said the 5 stop stop signs were installed on the corners by Curley School.

New Business:

Fatima McCasland spoke about Desert Senita Community Health Center, reporting on current changes and upcoming events.

Steve Monreal could not be at the meeting so we will have his report on the fire district at a later date. Jim Wilcox gave an update on the Curley School Project .

Mimi Phillips of ISDA spoke about the Smithsonian exhibit which will be housed at Curley school during December and January. Called Between Fences, it gives information on the fences between the Mexican , United States, and Canadian borders.

She also talked about International Day of Peace.

Call to the Floor:

A reiteration of the ongoing problems with the Sheriff's Office and private citizens was given by Lee Price and Ken Duvall. It was determined that the WPCCC would write a letter to both the Sheriff's Department and the Border Patrol asking that they respect our town and the traffic laws.

Bob Moreno said that there are areas along the new sidewalk that have been washed out by heavy rainfall and also reported that there is some grafitti on a couple of the ramadas.

The council also agreed to ask a representative from ADOT to the next meeting to discuss the various traffic needs of the community.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:00p.m.
