Meeting was called to order by Chairman Lil Jones at 7:PM.. Word of welcome. Introduces Ernie Green as new Member of the Board.
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Ken Freese.
Roll was taken by Faye Miller. Present: Lil Jones, Ken Freese, Carol Yokum, Deb Morrow, Chris Dimitrakopoulous, Faye Miller, John Wyatt, and Ernie Green.
Quorum noted.
Treasurers report given by Ken Freese noting the present balance of $1,172.18.
Minutes of the last meeting have been approved and are available at the Library and on our web site.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS:
1. Recycling: Deb Morrow reports 600 pounds of aluminum has been collected by the new machine. The collection of cans are taken to Phoenix by the recycler and sold for 40 cents per pound. After expenses are subtracted the funds are split 50/50 with recycler and not for profit PAWS. Note: The Machine will not take tin cans or flattened aluminum cans as they jam the machine. Copper News please copy. Cardboard is collected at the back door of Olsen's. Glass and plastic recycling will be coming soon.
NEW BUSINESS:
1. Lil Jones, Chair for 2008 announces the officers for 2008 as Vice-Chair Deb Morrow, Treasurer Ken Freese and Secretary Ernie Green.
SPEAKERS:
1. Lil Jones introduces Sharron Bronson, Supervisor, 3rd District. Her visit is to reestablish contact with the airport. It is important to keep aware of needs and services so she can be of help. It was noted the Skate Park should have its last inspection on January 11. If all goes well, will return with staff for the dedication in February., The Roping Arena goes slowly, but progressing. A great deal of paper work continues to mount up, A long term answer must be determined.
2. Chris Dimitrakopoulous introduced Hon. Jan Kearney, Judge of Pima County Superior Court. Due to the budget the Court is looking for ways to cut expenses. A once a month Ajo Superior Court session is planned to be cut. Often a full Court Staff comes and often has little or no work to do. Question: How can those needing to appear in Tucson be best served? It is the responsibility of the parent first. Noted: the Sheriffs can not carry passengers Possible to schedule Ajo Transportation? Ajo Transportation make slight change of route? Coordinate Court and bus schedule? Car pool?

Question: Jury Duty. Due to age, health, family responsibilities, distance, costs, driving at night, etc., how best to ask for excuse? Suggest write letter with detailed "undo Hardship". It is the law and a jury must be from all parts of the county.
3. Faye Miller introduced Jim Cowlin: Curly School resident. Talked about his pleasure coming to Ajo and Curley. The welcoming town and people. Marketing plan is yet to be looked into. The problems so far have been temporary and all part of a new place. Hope is Ajo will become a destination like Jerome. Visit the gift shop. Check out the art in the hallways. If you see an item you like check the name and call.
4. John Wyatt introduced Lt. Clements from the Sheriff's Office Adopt a Child program went very well at Christmas. We visited a family with five girls. It was a real show with gifts, Santa Claus, squad cars and fire truck. Information: remodeling is near complete. Tours are available--please call first. Question: Do the squad cars still carry Piece Maker blankets and teddy Bears? Yes! They work wonders for a child at an accident site. Representative noted more in the works.
CALL TO THE FLOOR:
1. Nancy Richeson questioned "Share the Light" on the APS bill. It is an APS charge on all APS bills. It Pays for street lights in their service area. Lights on Your street or not. Charge and lights will end in the year 2011. All Mercury Vapor lights will be outlawed. If lights are desired a special light district must be formed and said area will pay for installation, service, etc.
2. Mike Carr questioned the responsibility for the road to his house. The area in question is his drive way from the road to his house.
3. John Carr questioned the many street lights that are not working, sighting safety concerns. The area in question is under electrical refitting. They are working on them.
