SPEAKERS:
1. Carol Yokum introduced Jim Wilcox, representing Curley School, and Allen Culbin, representing Pima County Parks and Recreation. Planned sale of the Curley Gym is now in process. Step number one is to submit a grant request to the State Historical Society for $200,000.00 as the first part of the down payment. Part of the grant is to show support by the community of this project. This is the first of several Grants needed for the project as well as a bond issue possibly next year. On the motion of Chris
Dimitrakopoulous, seconded by Deb Morrow, for a letter in support of the project be sent to the Historical Society. The motion was passed by the board.
2. Ernest Green introduced Allen Dunstan, Project Development, “Ajo in the Wall” and “Barranca Del Cobre” Status report of the two properties. The Ajo in the Wall site has been a challenge, because we wanted to do everything the right way. We wish to thank Supervisor Bronson for her help early on. There has been a great list of repairs, ADA requirement, health and safety issues, etc., to allow us to reopen after being closed for two years. We feel we are near the end. We want to thank the many people who have stopped by with comments and encouragement. Just added, a Managing Chef from Chicago to assist in preparing for our opening, Our goal is the end of March. Regarding the Hospital. Due to continued demands of the Grill; the hospital has been on the back burner. We have completed and received the zoning change, it is now CAC, same as Curly School. We have one step left and that will include an architect for a development plan. Once the Grill is open we hope to have that completed and all permits in hand within six months.
3. Sheriffs Report--Lt. Clements. Station is adding one new experienced officer and two new at their completition of the Academy. In time we plan to have eight. Be aware of Spring Break. It has begun. There will be increased traffic and partiers. There will be DUI road blocks and possibly cycle officers. Note: If you call 911 and takes 10 seconds for it to answer, hang up and call Sheriffs Office. There is a problem with 911. Not all Ajo addresses are included. It is in process of correction.
