Meeting was called to order by Chairperson Lil Jones at 7:PM.
Pledge of Allegiance was led by Carol Yokum.
Roll call was taken by Chris Dimitrakopoulous. Present: Lil Jones, Deb Morrow, John Wyatt, Carol Yokum. Excused: Ken Freese (hand surgery), Ernest Green (out of town) and Faye Miller.
Minutes were accepted by the Council and are available at the Library and on the website at www.WPCCC.info.
Treasurers report was not given due to the absence of the Treasurer, Ken Freese.
UNFINISHED BUISINES:
1. Recycling: Deb Morrow reports fencing on the North side of Kords’ NAPA building is completed. There will be a “run through” this Saturday. Flyers are being distributed. Bring your newspapers, bottles, and steel cans. Bags will be added later.

SPEAKERS:
1. Richard Ducote of FMI and Catherine Castaneda of Shaw Environmental gave an over view of the soil testing program initiated by Freeport McMoRan. regarding past smelter practices that may have had a contamination impact on the Ajo environment. The taking of samples was illustrated and discussed. If soil replacement is found to be needed it will be to a depth of 18 inches. Replacement soil will be found and tested. The yard will be restored to original. The sampling will begin in June or July. The authorization papers must be signed by the property owner. This is an opportunity to get a free soil sample.
3. Ajo School: Principal Fred Fout, noted many AC units and adjoining roofs will be replaced this summer. The parking lots by the gym and the auditorium will be paved and the playgrounds will have drinking fountains this summer. The school is partnering with Council for the Arts and Community Players as to better encourage community involvement. The JTED program of culinary arts will soon add a web design class that will include a link to WPCCC and other area groups. A possible partnership with Border Patrol for a class for mechanic may be offered. With Ajo Ambulance for a class in welding could be offered. Other partnerships were mentioned. Advanced placement opportunities noted.. Salvia is again addressed. Sexual harassment classes may be given next year because of bullying. Tucson Symphony staff will come in May to work with the band. A methamphetamine awareness workshop at Dicus on May 7, at 1:30 p.m. Public invited. Spring events are being planned. All are invited to school board meetings. WPCCC participation is welcomed.
4. Community Garden: Chris Dimitrakopoulous reported plots in the garden will soon be available for $20.00 per year. Free the first year if you volunteer for the overall creation. The next community garden is April 22, at the Roadrunner.
5. Deb Miller of Supervisor Bronson’s talked briefly about summer youth programs starting soon. Flyers were left concerning this and a young women’s conference in Tucson.
CALL TO THE FLOOR:
a. Al Turner said he has been in Ajo for six weeks and is concerned about barking dogs and asked the community to quiet their dogs..
b. Ana Lopez, Pima County Parks and Recreation praised all who helped make the skate park dedication a success. Special thanks to all for their attendance at the tribute to Jim Bush and to all who made it possible.
